Her sister who was 2 minutes younger than her was also in heat, but she fell pregenant later than the other cat. We fed her well, gave her mild flea treatments and gave her plenty of care and pettings, she is a very nervous cat so we needed to calm her down. Anyway, she finally gave birth…she gave us plenty of warnings with her meow and she was so restless. But anyway, we didn’t touch her when she was giving birth because if we distracted her, things could have went terribly wrong indeed. The first kitten came out, it was a really scary moment because they don’t move for 30 seconds when they come out…it then gave a small meow and we sighed with relief. Another 4 kittens were given birth too, and it was site to see. So, as the weeks went on, we noticed that there was something wrong. The kittens were not feeding at all. The mother’s teets were red and swolen from all the sucking and she was frantic. It was then when the first kitten died. We thought that maybe it was just the runt, because it was quite small…but then another died the next day. And then the next 2 died on the next day, and one little fighter was left. We had been advised to not touch the kittens, but we kept the mother’s scent on our hands to be safe. We turned the kitten around … it was infested with fleas. I was so upset and fustrated, and I cryed because there was one little kitten left and it had all the other’s fleas on it. We knew it was dying because it wouldn’t accept any kitten milk or anything. The mother was frantic, but she too was infested with fleas, so we gave her a flea pill and we gave the last kitten a half of a pill to try and end the flea problem, but it was too anemic and was growing cold. Once the fleas had died off of them, we put the mother and the kitten a t the fire and the kitten died beside it’s mum…it was heartbreaking. We burried the little fighter with the other kittens in the back garden. The Mother made it worse because she was looking for her dead kittens! Luckily, she got over it after a couple of days but it a really hard thing to talk about and I’m glad I told it on here. The moral of the story is : Do something for your kittens while you still can, when you know something is wrong. Comments
