My pup died from distemper

I bought an akita pup and when we went to collect him the owner said he had an ifi tummy as she changed his food. So we didn’t think much of it, when we got him home then he seemed ok, but as the evening drew he was layed outside and didn’t want to move. We thought perhaps he’s realised now his mam isn’t here, and went and picked him up and brought him in. He then was sick and he had runny soils, but we put it down to the change of food and we wormed him.

Then on Sunday he refused to eat and was constantly being sick, so first thing Monday we took him to the vet who said he’s just missing his mam and most pups are withdrawn when separated. But in the night he just seemed to stay in the same place and by morning he was looking worse so we took him back and they kept him in over night.

When we went to pick him up the next day she charged me £48.00 and didn’t solve anything. He had lost so much weight and looked terrible. I was driving along only for about 3 mins and he started being sick again so i pulled over and rang the vets who said it’s travel sickness, which i knew it wasn’t, as we drove 3 and a half hours home from where we had him from, and he was fine then. This was half past 1, come 3, I still wasn’t happy with him so we ended up taking him to another vets who diognosed [diagnosed] the problem in minutes. By then, his breathing was being affected. It was really upsetting. We asked him about t he chance of surviving and was told it was 50-50 so we decided he had suffered enough and had him put down. My partner had to make the choice as i couldn’t.

He was a 9 week old pup and we only had him 4 days and had suffered the whole time. We asked the vet how long could he of had this virus and they said the incubation period is 7-10 days before any symptoms show. We contacted the people we had him off and they said they didn’t have any money left (even though they sold 7 pups at £350 each!) and we said they best get in contact with the other people they sold pups to and they said it wasn’t their problem and it’s just a dog!

We are taking the matter further and i would advise anyone to do the same if you have been in this situation, not for the money, but for your pup.

4 weeks ago we lost our 3 yr old Jack Russell Terrier after complications from a stillbirth. She left 3 baby girls for us to care for. Everything was going good until 5 days ago when we came home and the biggest and most active one was yelping. After really watching her, we noticed she wasn’t able to walk properly and apparently having seizures. [more..]

I begin my story with my new puppy Gizmo! I got him when he was 5 weeks old. He got two shots the day before I purchased him. He was a full-blooded schnauzer. A week after I got him I took him for his first puppy check-up. I was so excited! I was told that he had a little skin rash and a little case of the worms. This was all supposed to be cureable. Well, I took my puppy home and gave him his medicine and he seemed fine. [more..]
