She’s An Angel

I got my first puppy from a breeder when I was 14. His name was Luke. His sister, Stacey, was givien to my other neighbor, who I disliked. I always kept my eye on Stacey because the owners were careless; they let her run around unattended, left her in the backyard, and never bothered to take her for walks. Once, I even saved Stacey from being dognapped from fellow people. As a reward, they gave me Stacey. They said they had all shots taken cared of, and not to worry, and that she was a naughty puppy.

In her first night at my home, she made a mess in the room where she stayed. When my family discovered this, she looked scared, and went up to my mom, and apologized. I thought to myself, had she been mistreated at my neighbors’ house? She was always a good pup to us. We changed her name to Angel because that was what she really was. She taught her brother, Luke, to not steal her food, and not bite, and not run away.

In January, she started to limp. The vets said it was probably a little accident, so time passed and it healed. Then, she lost her appetite, and wouldn’t eat anything we put in front of her. The vets said she’d eat when she was hungry. Soon, she couldn’t do anything by herself, and had diarrhea, so my mom took her to the vet again. It was January 24, and I was at basketball practice when I got a call from my mom. She said Angel was very sick, and they don’t know what was wrong with her. I cried, and my team tried to comfort me. My mom picked me up, and raced back to the vet, where I saw my poor puppy, laying down. Luke, her brother, stared at her, whimpering. The vet couldn’t do anything to help her, so we raced her to a pet hospital, where they took her, and ran tests. My mom and I cried forever, hoping she’d be okay, wishing that we had the money to pay for anything that could make her better. The vet came in and said that Angel, My Angel, had distemper

My heart was broken when I saw her for the last time. She couldn’t sit up, only lick my hand while she was dying. My heart broke that night, and when I came home, and looked Luke in his eyes, he could see that his sister was with God.

In 2000 we found a beautiful dog in Cabazon Springs, she was starving and needed a home. She was a grown dog, yet only about 1 - 2 years old. She is a German Shepard mix. The sweetest dog on earth, just loved everybody. [more..]

…that my partner’s cat has FeLV and is not doing well. He is not eating at all and we think it’s just a matter of a few days. Our question is, whether to let him die peacefully at home or putting him to sleep. [more..]

  • The Passing of Travey - by G - (Mon, Apr 09 2007)
I was very pleased by the way my 19-year-old shepherd-coon hound mix passed on. Even with bad arthritis in her hip and some central nervous malfunction, she was a happy girl ’till the end. [more..]
