I have recorded the bloating episodes (and sometimes vomiting) for the past year and a half. He has these once a month and this past year, often twice a month. We do everything right…no feeding for 2 hrs. after walks or an hour prior to a walk. Feeding him 4 times a day, if I know fam. members are coming, I make sure not to feed him as he gets very excited (he thinks the visitors are for him). Each episodes lasts about 40 - 45 min. and it’s so hard to watch him, I’m there, comforting him and he stays close although moves around as there’s a lot of pain. At the beginning, we rushed to the vet…but most of the time, he vomits, then slowly gets better. We were told “tacking the stomach” will prevent the stomach to turn but it won’t stop the terrible and painful bloating…we are torn…the risks of surgery, the cost is a factor too….I’m so afraid to find him one day just lying there….the vet says it’s a tough call. Are there many other dogs that have several bloat episodes and live a long time? Comments
