To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download Newfoundland dog - Angus My wife and me were aware of ‘bloat’ in Newfies and other breeds. Angus has always been a picky eater and subsequently, has been lean throughout his eight years. Recently, dumb as it sounds, I found he would eat more readily if I offered the food by hand. In fact, I could not have done worse by the dog as he usually would bolt food offered in this manner while I was unaware that bolting food could result in bloat. Yesterday my stupidity resulted in a life threatening case of gastric dilation. Fortunatley his condition was discovered in time for our local emergency vet to reverse. Guaranteed I will never again offer this dog his food by hand. May 2008
