Hoping for the best

We rushed our standard poodle, Lexie, to the emergency vet at 2:00 a.m. The vet knew in 5 minutes she had GDV. You know its serious when they said do the surgery or euthanize the dog. Of course, the surgery, no matter what the cost, was our choice.

She was in surgery until 6:00 a.m. this morning. They had to take out her spleen and it will be touch and go for the next week. I found these stories while doing research on line. Now I know, her symptoms were textbook for bloat. The salivating, all the water drinking, panting, not be able to lay down and the puffed up rib cage. I wish we were all told about this disease by our vets when we first brought in puppies for their shots…especially in breeds prone to this terrible illness.

I plan to call the vet every two hours to check on my baby girl. Wish us luck. She is strong and healthy. She has to be okay!
