Evidently the fleas suck the blood which makes the cat anemic, then their little hearts have to work harder to pump what blood is left, which causes heart failure. If you live in the part of the country where fleas are prevalent, let me tell you, Orkin is not enough. Purchase some Diatamateous earth, the kind for use with animals NOT THE POOL KIND. It kills insects and does not harm warm blooded creatures. Dust your animals, spray it anywhere insects are. I didn’t know about this before I lost my two young cats. Too late for them, but hopefully in time for my old guy. August 2007
