my cat was diagnosed about four years ago . she was only two and a half years old she was my world and every day i think about her i knick named her minkey she was tiger and had the markings of a minks cat beautiful stripes black and gray. i made a very big mistake by adopting a russian blue my friend gave away because she was a allergic to she told me the cat was clean of every thing with a clean bill of health from the vet and i believed her because she took good care of her animals i did not know that the mother of the cat was a outside cat and smokey was the baby my friend moved and i took the cat and brought it to my home with my other four and tigr’e played so cute with smokey but two weeks later i noticed smokey coughing and sneezing so i took her to the vet also to be spayed and had gotten a call right away that smokey was positive for feline luekemia she was put to sleep that day because she was very sick. now my cats were tested quickly and three where okay but one was not my tiger had the disease my world collapsed i loved her like my child and i will never be able to hold her and tell her i love her like i said it has been four years and i have to live with my self every day that i brought another cat in to my home with out being checked first i have to remined my self that on febuary of 2004 i made the right decission to put my cat to sleep because she was looseing weight and not able to be with her sisters to be confinrd would be like prision and i could not do that to her or my other three they loved her and was efected by her being gone also. i cry alot specially when someone tells there story because my heart goes out to them . recently my neighber was given a eight week kitten and my god it looks like my tigr’e that hurt very badly when she introduced me to her cat she named him tiger she did not know about my cat and really feels bad and has told i can hold him any time i want but i cant to many memories for me of her it it really still hurts it gets alittle better each day but they say time heals all wounds but i will never forget her and what happened to her so i spread the word get your cat tested before you bring another into your home!

I work at a grooming shop and we have a mobile vet that comes in and does checks on our shop cats. We’ve had a kitten for a while now and decided that he was going to be permanent so we called the vet in to neuter and front paw declaw the cat. [more..]
  • Treatments can prolong life - by Amadea - (Fri, Sep 14 2007)
I have a cat named, Bella, short for Mary Shelly. or sometimes we call her Smelley Belly. In 2004, she started to act strange, she wasn’t eating and she didn’t seem to feel well. She also did something abnormal for her, she sought me out and clung to me. So when we wouldn’t eat, I took her to the Vet. [more..]

I just found out that the little stray 3 month old kitten that I have been feeding; and finally decided to give a home to; is “weakly” positive for feline leukemia. I have been lucky enough to find some very helpful ladies who are very involved in cat welfare; providing foster care and helping with adoptions, etc. [more..]
  • My vet was very wrong… - by Cheryl - (Fri, Sep 07 2007)
My vet told me 3 years ago my 5 month old “Pumkin” was positive for FeLV and that she might last two months. I was so devastated. She had swollen lymph nodes [throat] and he gave her medication which did make the swelling go down. I was scared to death for months just waiting for hell to come. [more..]
