FIP

Just wanted to share my story about our cat Dexter. Dexter is a F3 Savannah cat. Our breeder stated Dexter should be given some amount of raw meat to eat with his diet. Dexter seemed to be doing fine until we went for his 4 month shots. He had lost weight and our Vet thought he had leukemia. Dexter was tested for this and was o.k. Our vet did not approve of the raw meat and checked for toxoplasmosis. We gave Dexter a round of antibiotic and things went great for about a month.

Noticed Dexter’s abdomen started swelling. Vet immediately suspected FIP After withdrawing stomach fluid, he tested positive for the Corona virus. Dexter was placed on predinsone, but, the vet told us it is a fatal disease and was of the wet form. We, as others, prayed and hoped Dexter somehow would be miracurously cured. We gave him such good care, but, it didn’t help. I would have paid anything to have saved him.

From the time he was diagnosed with FIP Dexter lasted less than 3 weeks. His appetite went away and his stomach was grossly bloated. His breathing became labored, and, we couldn’t stand to see him suffer. The miracle cure overnight never came. Dexter was 7 months, 17 days old when we had to put him down. Hardest thing we have ever had to do because he was such a sweet, loving little guy. Trying to write this as therapy because it was just 3 days ago. I hope and pray no-one else ever has to go through what we have.
