Sweet Savannah…

by: J.D. on Tue, Mar 25 2008

My husband and I brought home Savannah (a Ragdoll) when she was 3 months old. While at the cattery, we noticed that several kittens appeared to be getting over a cold virus, which is what the breeder told us. (Not knowing a thing about coronavirus or FIP at the time, we believed her and weren’t overly concerned.)

Within a few short weeks, I noticed that Savannah’s actively level had dropped markedly. She would just hunker down and stare ahead with half-closed eyes. Her appetite also decreased greatly.

Several tests were run to confirm a diagnosis of FIP which the vet first suspected due to fluid shown on Savannah’s x-rays. Between the tests and treatments attempted, my husband and I spent $1,200 within the six weeks’ time that we had left with our sweet kitten. It was an emotionally- and financially-draining time period for us.

Our best efforts (obviously) were not enough to help Savannah overcome this insidious illness, though we gave it our very best shot. And though I still get teary whenever I think of her (five years later), I am happy knowing that she’s no longer suffering.

My little Larry wasn’t eating as much as he usually does about 3 weeks ago, so after about a week we went to the vet to see what was going on. They found that he had a fever, high white blood cell count, spots on his lungs, and was dehydrated, and put him on an IV and some antibiotics. [more..]

  • Brie - by Cheryl T - (Mon, Mar 24 2008)
We noticed that Brie (7 months old) had not been his normal kitty self for a few weeks back in mid Feb. He used to be such a little terror. Gradually it appeared that he was losing interest in playing, he looked depressed, and was always wanting to sleep. [more..]
  • Weezer had FIP - by Claire - (Wed, Mar 05 2008)
I adopted a sweet orange tabby from a pet store. I brought him home. In early February I decided it was time for him to get neutered. The day before the neuter he was lethargic and seemed depressed. [more..]
