She was a diabetic cat and I had been treating her for 2 1/2 years with insulin injections twice a day. I had been prepared to lose her to that illness…I never thought she might die of FIP During my college days, I worked for a vet and continue to part time now. FIP is a killer of cats, that many cat owners don’t know about. I chose not to have her tested for actual FIP, but her symptons were all there. She had a swollen abdomen filled with fluid and her blood work all pointed to FIP. I just got two kittens over the past year from the clinic I work at part time. They had their vaccines and were both tested for FELV/FIV. I thought that I was being responsible and now know that I may have unknowingly brought this disease into my home. It’s scary to realize that this disease is out there. Educating cat owners is the key in reducing the shock of this terrible disease! Harley had a wonderful life, where she was honored and loved all of her days. Holding her while she died was the hardest and most responsible act that I could do as her owner and I encourage anyone else to do the same. I wanted the last person she saw to be me and not a stranger. Comments
