Mama and Baba

I rescued Mama during a mean winter storm 3 years ago. She was in bad shape.
She had been abandoned, and on the streets long enough to become part wild. She had been badly abused, I am sure someone tried to suffocate her in plastic because of the way she reacts so terribly when I don’t think and open a plastic bag of any kind.
She also was pregnant and gave me 5 kittens. I lost my apartment because I wouldn’t get the kittens out before they were ready to leave Mama.
I kept one kitten, a boy.
My problem now is he displays so many signs a wild male outdoor tom would.
He is 21/2 times taller and double the length of her (he is one BIG cat).
He thinks I am his “girl” and is very domineering and bossy to Mama.
She reacts like a female outside would and bows to his dominance.
This causes stress in house as he will forbid her to enter certain rooms and at one point had her in a little corner in back room. I have reacted wrong of course, by trying to discipline him. It only makes him worse towards her and he doesn’t understand why I have turned on him.
Has anybody ideas of how I can solve this problem? I have the name of a cat psychologist, but not the money it would cost, and I would really like to enjoy my cats, not just be a referee.
Thanks so much.
