Confused about cruciate injury!

I have a 4 year old golden who started limping about 6 months ago. After many visits to my vet I finally landed at the local university to find her injury could be repaired with a $2,800 surgery, followed by another $2,800 for the other leg. (She is not yet having problems with the other leg but they want to do the surgery right away!) I am sincerely heart broken and confused…….I want to do all I can to help her but just cannot affort the $6,000 for the surgery. Has anyone out there had another surgery done other than TPLO? My vet does a cruciate repair surgery for about $900.00, but it is not TPLO and thus, according to experts, is not the best option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
