duffys distemper

We purchased our puppy at Selmers Petland at the age of 5months. At that point we trusted that all vaccinations were up to date(backed by their paperwork).
Sadly and suddenly our seemingly healthy puppy who had recovered from Giardea and Coccidia infections , came down with distemper
He first showed signs of what we thought was an ear infection, because of a tilted head ,we brought him to a Vet. This all happened while we were out of town. That Vet told us that this loked more neurologic that we needed to schedule an appointment when we got home .Sadly by the next morning he was worse he was unbalanced and could only walk in tight cirles. We rushed home and brought him to our Vet and specialists, who through many tests confirmed the diagnosis.
It is our understanding that he had not built up the proper immunity.
It is horrible to watch your pet wither away because of human error. We misss him and hope to spread the word of pet store horrors in hope that enough news will make people more aware and thus put this puppy market out of business

Girl Lee is our beautiful Lab/Pit mix. When we found her, we thought she had a cold, so we took her to the vet to get it cleared up so we could get her spayed. Turns out she had distemper–the vet gave her a 25% chance of survival. [more..]
