To quickly access health information from your website's browser, download An Unhappy Ending Do not read this story if you want to “hear” a happy ending about distemper A couple of weeks ago, I rescued a little puppy from my next door neighbor (who just left it outside to die, because she didn’t want it anymore). Other than being a little under-nourished, she seemed okay. She ate like a little pig and played joyfully with my other 5 dogs. A couple of days ago, she started to lose a little of her puppy energy and didn’t seem to want to eat. I kept a watchful eye on her, and when I couldn’t get her to eat or drink anything, I took her to the vet. He warned me about distemper but couldn’t say for sure if that was her problem. So, he gave me some antibiotics and told me to watch for seizures. It happened so fast…this morning she just would not move and did not want to be held. She threw up her medicine and would not drink. Then, she just went limp in my arms and after a couple of small seizures she was gone. I cried and cried, even though I had only loved her for a few weeks. Please, please be sure that any puppy that you buy/rescue has ALL of its shots and if you have the slightest incling that your pup is sick, go to the vet ASAP. Don’t wait one minute. I’m not certain that she wasn’t sick when I got her, but maybe I could have done more. I’m gonna miss you, Lucy… Comments
