My wife and I adopted a 7 week old puppy last weekend (6 days ago) From the Galveston TX pound/rescue center. He was active and happy. We brought him in to our Vet Monday to get checked out and get his first round of shots. The next morning he began his downhill slide. He threw up in the morning and again in the evening. We called our Vet and he said he was just getting rid of the worms he had. Well, the worms are gone or they should be, but he has just been getting worse. Thursday (today) he would not eat and was not active at all. We brought him back to the Vet and had to see another Doc because our’s was out of town. What we know now is he has nasal discharge, labored breathing (we knew this for a day or two), his white blood cell count is on the high end of normal, and he has lost 0.7 lbs since Monday and now weighs 6.3lbs. The Vet gave him an antibiotic shot and saline solution and sent us home with antibiotics and vitamin supplement paste. Everything I read on this sight along with this evening really leans towards distempter. However, he does not have spasms - yet. We were told to give him antibiotics and vitamin supplements and see f he respinds in a day or two, but I don’t have high hopes. I know nothing about the NDV treatment that I’ve read about on this sight and I have no idea how much it costs. I’m a realist so I won’t spend a small fortune to save our pup, but in the same breath I don’t want to have to put him down. Wish us luck because I think that’s all we have. Comments
