My 3 month old puppy had distemper

by: Jovann on Mon, Feb 04 2008

Last Friday night, our family was stunned to see our 3 month old terrier named twinky having a seizure. Prior to that she became very moody and always bark whenever we try to hold her.

We brought her saturday morning to her Vet and the doctor performs blood test to check if she’s having a distemper. After 2 hours the result is positive. The doctor only gave our puppy Vitamin B+ to calm her nerves.

But my mother and I we’re not satisfied to the medicine that the vet gave to our puppy. That’s why I made some research and decided to gave our puppy Vitamin C and antibiotics so that we can boost our beloved puppy’s immune system and to protect her from having secondary infections brought by the virus.

After 2 days our puppy responded to the medicines that we gave and little by little she became playful again but still having some seizures every 4-6 hours. The only difference is that she can easily stand-up after the seizure unlike before.

Hopefully she can survive this disease. If you still have some tips in order to make the health of our puppy improve because I don’t want her to die. Your reply will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Do not read this story if you want to “hear” a happy ending about distemper A couple of weeks ago, I rescued a little puppy from my next door neighbor (who just left it outside to die, because she didn’t want it anymore). Other than being a little under-nourished, she seemed okay. [more..]

I’ll keep it short and sweet. I am a new pet owner, I adopted Cooper on Sunday 2/3/08 from a Humane Society The poor thing had been at the shelter for 109 days. As they are a no-kill shelter, I couldn’t leave him there to live. He is perfect for our family. [more..]
