We have also been told of a VIRULENT form of this virus which is even worse and can affect cats who have been vaccinated against Calicivirus. I live in Indiana…and shelter in my area has a confirmed case. The kitten was adopted out..and it’s veterinarian confirmed the calicivirus. Now…how to deal with the several hundred cats this infected cat was exposed to at this shelter. AND…the shelter is still adopting out animals. Since this virus can live for 8-10 days outside the infected animal…many other cats are most likely infected as well. Should a local state health department be advised? March 2008
